Top 10 Ways Monsanto is killing things (plants, animals, people)..

#1 Generating Massive Greenhouse Gas Pollution (CO2, Methane, Nitrous Oxide) and Global Warming, While Promoting False Solutions Such as Industrial Biofuels, So-Called Drought-Resistant Crops, and Genetically Engineered Trees

#2 Polluting the Environment and the Soil-Food Web with Pesticides, Chemical Fertilizers, and Persistent Toxins, Including Dioxin

#3 Draining and Polluting Wetlands and Aquifers, Turning Farmland into Desert

#4 Poisoning Wells and Municipal Drinking Water, Lakes, and Rivers

#5 Chopping Down the Rainforests for Monoculture GMO Crops, Biofuels and Cattle Grazing

#6 Increasing the Cost of Food, While Reducing Nutrition and Biodiversity

#7 Spawning Pesticide-Resistant Superbugs and Weeds, and Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria

#8 Generating New and More Virulent Plant, Animal and Human Diseases

#9 Utilizing Wasteful Fossil Fuel-Intensive Practices and Encouraging the Expansion of Natural Gas Fracking and Tar Sands Extraction (Which Destroy Forests, Aquifers, and Farmland)

#10 Stealing Money From the 99% to Give Huge Subsidies to the 1% Wealthiest, Most Chemical and Energy-Intensive Farms and Food Producers

    • Am I to understand you think the GROWER of PLANTS that grow great in drought and poor soils is CREATING more CO2 as a result?
Plants that draw gigantic amounts of CO2 out of the atmosphere are to blame?
Not tha CO2 is a problem as its NOT, its just great plant food.
      Are you clinically insane?
You ACT like you care about people, especially the 99%. YET...

Here is the liberal solution to this problem:

We go back to all organic farming, very low yield, highly labor intensive, very water intensive, stop using fossil fuels, and return to a pre-industrialized society.

Side effect? 3 billion humans die of starvation.
YOU FEEL ME? Without the high yield, pest and drought resistant seeds that the world uses, we COULD NOT FEED THE WORLD.
The result would be mass starvation, plague, disease, pestilence, and DEATH.

So just say what you mean. You want over 1/3 of all humans that INFEST mother earth to DIE.
      SAY IT!

JUST ADMIT IT. THATS WHAT YOU WANT.

    • you don't own stock in this company. We know about polution here. We own stock in this company. I breath air that YOU pollute by you turning on your heating system. I'm here to make a profit so that I can go to a doctor who will treat me for the pollution that YOU have caused.

    • Whoa you just went off the deep end - not in touch with reality

    • #9 Utilizing Wasteful Fossil Fuel-Intensive Practices and Encouraging the Expansion of Natural Gas Fracking and Tar Sands Extraction (Which Destroy Forests, Aquifers, and Farmland)

Last I knew, MON was not doing anything to encourage wasting fuel. The GMO crops save fuel. That's why farmers are willing to pay extra for the seeds.

#10 Stealing Money From the 99% to Give Huge Subsidies to the 1% Wealthiest, Most Chemical and Energy-Intensive Farms and Food Producers

As one of the 99%, I don't like the idea of wasteful subsidies to the 1%. I don't think the subsidies, which
are tax money, are stealing, but in any case MON is not doing the taxing nor giving the subsidies.

snthsnth1, it's fine to be against Monsanto's business practices. But it's foolish to base your whole campaign on stuff that is just plain nonsense. There are real reasons to be critical of this company. Why waste your energy posting claims that anyone can easily recognize as nonsense?

    • #5 Chopping Down the Rainforests for Monoculture GMO Crops, Biofuels and Cattle Grazing

This is an issue in Brazil. Rainforests destroyed for cattle grazing is unrelated to MON's business and has been going on for decades before there were GMO crops. Biofuels in Brazil means sugar cane, not a MON business interest. The only GMO crop in Brazil is soybeans which are grown in an area that isn't rainforest and never was. The soybean fields were monocultured before there were GMOs, and MON was only permitted to sell its seeds in Brazil about two years ago, although the seeds were stolen and planted illegally for years before that. Presumably you understand that MON did not make any money from stolen seeds.

#6 Increasing the Cost of Food, While Reducing Nutrition and Biodiversity

There's no basis for that claim. You just made it up.

#7 Spawning Pesticide-Resistant Superbugs and Weeds, and Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria

Three separate claims. Superbugs? You mean Bt resistant insects. But they were first observed as a result of BT used in organic agriculture. Weeds? A weed which evolves resistance to herbicide is not a superweed. It doesn't resist older weed control technologies. Farmers who don't grow GMOs can control those weeds like they control any other weeds. Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria? Nothing MON does promotes antibiotic resistant bacteria. These are promoted by raising animals b7y feeding them antibiotics. It's just not part of MON's business.

#8 Generating New and More Virulent Plant, Animal and Human Diseases

      You just made that up.

      (continued)

    • It's amazing how many wrong statements your post contains.

#1 Generating Massive Greenhouse Gas Pollution (CO2, Methane, Nitrous Oxide) and Global Warming, While Promoting False Solutions Such as Industrial Biofuels, So-Called Drought-Resistant Crops, and Genetically Engineered Trees

How does MON generate massive greenhouse gases? The net effect of the two major GMO crops is to reduce the need to pass a tractor across the field, saving massive amounts of fuel, hence less CO2. Unclear how you think MON generates CH4 or NO. MON may be promoting industrial biofuels, but promoting drought resistant crops doesn't contribute to any pollution and I don't think MON has any interest in GMO trees, but if it did, they would be insect resistant hence reducing CO2 emission. This whole first claim is wrong.

#2 Polluting the Environment and the Soil-Food Web with Pesticides, Chemical Fertilizers, and Persistent Toxins, Including Dioxin

MON is selling many seeds that reduce the need for pesticides and many other seeds that encourage farmers to switch from toxic herbicides to much less toxic fertilizers. The main MON chemical sold is glyphosate, which is not persistent. Dioxin was a contaminant that was found in a herbicide manufactured by a different Monsanto company in the 1960s (were you even born then?). Again, everything in this point is wrong.

#3 Draining and Polluting Wetlands and Aquifers, Turning Farmland into Desert
#4 Poisoning Wells and Municipal Drinking Water, Lakes, and Rivers

MON is not doing that. I happen to be on my town's water and sewer committee, and we worry about water pollution. But MON is not on our list of concerns. So claims 3 and 4 seem to be false.
