    • Investors and Monsanto mgmt are clearly underestimating the California voter mentality. California is a bellwether state for a good reason - it has enough educated citizens that value their health and the environment to influence public policy. The Anti-Prop 37 ads, which are designed to confuse voters, will work on a portion of the lesser educated voters but not enough to defeat the bill. As a bellwether state, this labeling law will soon spread to other states. Monsanto mgmt made zero mention of the upcoming vote on the last quarterly report conference call, as well as not mentioning the suspension of the brazilian royalties, which had been downplayed on previous calls.
How can you trust a management team that is withholding information from it's investors? Or is so arrogant that it can't see that voters can think for themselves and make a decision to be informed about their food choices? Bottom line is that you cannot trust this management group. You will see companies switching to non-GM crops nationwide to avoid the GM label in CA and still management will deny that will effect earnings until AFTER they present a disappointing quarter...
Time to go short this stock, prior to election day..

      Sentiment: Strong Sell

      • aebibsky, interesting point you make:

Hmmmm.......I really haven't given a lot of thought to shorting Monsanto stock but this might be a big surprise to their supporters after Prop 37 passes. Karma is soon to bite them in the you know what!

      • I think you have one thing backwards. Educated consumers that understand science do not have a problem with transgenic foods. Prop37 and the anti-GMO movement are really feasting on those with a less sophisticated grasp of science, lying to them about the subject. The prop37 Act's first section, Findings and Declarations has ZERO, not one, justification that is based in reality and specific to transgenic foods. It will pass, and if it is not rescinded based on this alone, consumers will not really care. They use rDNA medicines, rDNA cheese, mutation bred food, etc. Nobody really cares. Plus the anti-GMO movement is looking more and more like the science deniers on the right that disavow the real science of climate change and evolution. Independent, academic scientists are taking a stand, finally. Look at the sharp and immediate criticisms of Seralini and Benbrook's recent articles. It will be fun to watch, but even if you made transgenics illegal the rest of the world is moving that way and we can continue our race to the bottom. Also keep in mind that the same seed companies will be the ones to sell you conventional hybrid seed, just the price will be higher.

    • man, you and they are some crop of bizarre loon characters! You all should be ashamed of spreading your ignorant agenda. I am a health care professional and can tell you that there is more potential harm in a can of soda than anything to do with GMO foods.

      Sentiment: Strong Buy
