Generalizing by saying Diamond paid more or less than the market in an year to a grower is a not too relevant. Price is determined by a number of variables including variety, size, grade, shelling quality, etc.
So what do you do in the walnut industry that makes you think dmnd is a buy? Maybe I should buy. I am at grower level and have shorted this from the top after hearing from growers how much product was not going to dmnd from 2011 crop... Tonnage not delivered in my mind adds up to earnings that won't be there. I am up more than you could ever imagine...
Congrads on your gains. I catch falling knives for a living. When Diamond reported previous qtr's earnings on 9/15, the stock jumped 9 to 87. When the news about the mysterious $50M in payments was out on Sept 27, the stock was 82.
What I see with many stocks is the exaggerated moves, due to hedge fund activity and heard mentality. I don't know the bottom of Diamond, but at 28 the risk-reward looks unbelievable. Any good news and I think this stock could go up 50% in a day or two - no joke. Yes, I am looking to buy March calls.
