I've been buying. Added 1,500 shares today. IMO the selling is by large institutions reallocating their portfolios. The market is transitioning into a second phase of bull market where high dividend stocks are seen as having a bit less potential than they have for the past 4 years. Perhaps there's an "it's been a nice ride, now let's take the profits" mentality. I sold most of my REITS a few weeks ago but am now rebuilding the positions as I think the selling is over done. I have also added some FAS, triple-levered banking. Levered ETF's are volatile, but I use FAS to hedge the decline in NRF and other REITs. I've been up modestly on days that the REITS are selling off.
btw. I bought AGNC at near its exact low when it crashed the other day. It's up over 5% since then. You gotta realize that most of the time there IS NO REASON, at least not a logical one, for the selling. The stock market consists of dumb money chasing dumber money. It's like the Ape House in the Zoo. When one monkey sees another one stick its finger up its @#$%$ the other monkey copies the behavior without understanding why.
I've been making a living as a trader outguessing the Wall Street bozos for 30 years. I'm sure DAR, ALF, and a few other old hands have done it even better than I have.
