    • S.O.S.

    • Just the normal response to the formal announcement about restructuring activities/costs. Nothing out of the ordinary. I used it as a trading opportunity and picked up some shares. I expect both short-term and longer-term recovery in the share price. Good luck to all!

      Sentiment: Buy

      • More to it than that, imo. In the restructuring announcement they slipped in a downward guidance on next quarter's revenue. On their last earnings report on Feb 6, they expected next quarters revenue to "exceed $16 million", but in the most recent pr they said to expect revenues "in the range of $14 to $16 million". Additionally, the company seems to be gradually backing away from its guidance that it could achieve an ongoing cash flow positive by March 2015. The statements now: " AMSC believes that it must grow revenue beyond current levels to achieve sustainable positive cash flows." and "The Company is not providing specific guidance with respect to cash flows in any future periods beyond the fourth quarter of fiscal 2013"

The hope that the company's business in China is picking up was somewhat dashed by the fact that they are downsizing their operation in China. Not something they would be likely to do if they expected a serious pick up in business there.

For those wondering why the stock is getting hit, I think you also have to ask, why did the stock rise so suddenly just recently? The first pop came after the announcement about the Chinese Supreme Court's jurisdictional ruling. A whopping 6 million shares in one day popped the stock from about 1.80 to 2.25 (higher, intraday). About the same time, PLUG, FCEL, BLDP et al led a rally of astonishing irrational exuberance in the alternative energy sector. Undoubtably, some of that enthusiasm spilled over here, and supported the stock above $2.

The company is hunkering down, and apparently is not counting on a gift from the Chinese legal system. This reality may be sinking in for those who bought out of irrational exuberance
