Fire drill at Sands Cotai Central in preparation for its opening
A fire drill was undertaken at Sands Cotai Central Tuesday, as the integrated resort at the center of the Cotai Strip development makes preparations for the upcoming opening of Sheraton Macao Hotel, Cotai Central’s Earth tower. Around 500 staff from the hotel participated in the drill.
The drill began with a simulated hotel room fire on the 10th floor of Sheraton Macao Hotel’s Earth Tower. Alarms were activated and an evacuation announcement was made to all departments, with participating staff promptly and safely evacuating the building to gather at designated outdoor assembly areas. Designated team members were responsible to check all hotel rooms in the affected area for successful evacuation.
Four fire engines, manned with 50 fire fighters from a nearby fire station, and two ambulances were dispatched to the tower, with emergency personnel rushing a mock-injured patient to a hospital for treatment as part of the simulation.
“The quick response and emergency-readiness of our team members and Sheraton associates helped make the fire drill a success. We’re very glad to see the simulation showing our evacuation plan’s effectiveness in providing a safe exit for staff, guests and visitors in emergency situations,” said Brian Taylor, Director of Fire Life Safety, Sands Cotai Central.
