This evening, as the clock struck mid-night and October began, Bloomberg did not go dark on my television, the lights didn't go off, and I calmly finished a fine glass of Merlot. There was, however, a strange tingly feeling that, for the first few moments of the new fiscal year...
... the U.S. government was actually living within it's means!
I didn't feel this good early last week. Back then, I was hoping every moment that the government would avert this shutdown. I questioned the wisdom of defunding the worst new government entitlement of my lifetime, Obamacare, but I agreed that there were better ways to go about it.
Then, I got "the letter"!
In the mail came the bombshell that others had spoken about as their wives pulled the kids in off the street...
... my health insurance company was letting me know that Obamacare was going to more than DOUBLE the cost of my health insurance, and, once you include the higher deductables and annual out-of-pocket limits, my insurance costs were effectively TRIPPLING from what I was paying in 2011.
The upshot... the "Affordable" Care Act is, in reality, horribly, horribly UN-Affordable!
So yes, Virginia... shut it down. Shut it ALL down until some sense of sanity returns to our American entitlement system run-amok.
You'll all get "the letter" that lets you know what Obamacare is going to carve out of YOUR heavily-taxable income... and it truly will be, UN-Affordable.
But that only pales by comparison with the letters our KIDS will get, when the day comes in the future when the government really DOES go bankrupt under the weight of all these massive entitlements...
... and they shudder as they realize... the U.S. is Greece.
