Step by step we are moving toward a shortage of workers in this country. If we start getting our act together in tracking illigal immigrants over staying their visa' my wild guess is that the next president will be a Republican that passes legislation giving a "path" to legally stay here for many illegals.
What showed up in our job numbers today is that we have higher participation rate of available workers in tandem with an uptick of under employed workers.... meaning more part time workers being hired.
We had job growth but fewer hours worked?? HUH?
As our country digests Obama care the landscape and make up of our work force is changing right before our eyes. What seems like such a radical prediction of a shortage of workers will become much more believable as we see the trend continue. IMHO.
mr. s, good to see you again. You may be right but IMHO we don't have a shortage of workers but a shortage of people willing to work. As I've stated here before we, and I use the term loosely, make it too easy for the people of this nation of moochers to get the "free stuff". Also, we had job growth but fewer hours worked is the result of Obamacare. Employers are cutting employees that are putting in over 30 hours a week down to 25 so they don't have to offer them health benefits while hiring more part time employees. You're going to see a lot more of this in the future. 2014 is going to be a real eye opener for this nation. IMHO
Payback if that is happening it is a short term thing, as the jobless rate normalizes exployers will have no choice but to raise wages and improve benefits like providing health care. There will be a shortage of workers and the employers will be fighting for them.
Keep in mind this can turn on a dime, just like the housing glut/shortage did.
