I believe that coal to liquid will occurr on a massive scale. It already is in Africa. Sasol has been building such an operation for years and is now quite profitable. They will continue to expand their operation. They are not doing any carbon sequestration. They are simply making liquid fuel.
We, in the US, could make lots of money by doing this. However, if the environmentalist and our idiot politicians insist on carbon sequestration, then it will no be economical. It will be easier to let Sasol do it and import the liquid fuel. It will be, yet another, potentially good business that our environmental/legal rules will kill in its infancy.
