    NVS FDWT...

    Hi all happy NVS investors!
I hold 400 NVS at $55.50, and we will be receiving our dividends soon this year. I have just recently found out, that we are taxed at 35% and one should try and retain back some of the dividend.
Having calaculated that I have only been taxed at 18%, I am confused to know how this has come to be? Not that I care, as I know that you may not get back the full amount of tax from the foreign company. I was going to look at investing in SI ADR but lower down at $85-90 be it this year or next year, but would like to know at what i would receive in dividends from it if i were to be taxed at the German rate of tax which is 26.375%, thus i would be taxed at 15% roughly on the same basis as NVS. OI wonder if any other investors have the same experience as me?

    • If you are a US taxpayer the Swiss retain 15% of the dividend as tax (the regular rate is 35% but the Swiss have a tax treaty with the US); and US taxpayers would get the foreign tax credit when they go to do their return - which is usually equal to about %15 - depending on your tax situation. I hope this helps.
