Question about CentOS and Red Hat

There are many web hosting companies that use CentOS as the platform for their offerings.

Do these companies pay Red Hat service fees? *snicker*

No, they don't pay Red Hat service fees. CentOS is based on the RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) kernal. That is the wonderful thing about Linux, it is open to all. CentOS is no threat to Red Hat and in fact their technical support is primarily provided to the community via official mailing lists, web forums, and chat rooms. These are not the support mechanisms that businesses find attractive. SNICKER, SNICKER, SNICKER
