    Still laughing at the presentation...

...that Orascam submitted on the recent 8K...they say at one point, talking about type 2 diabetics:

"Elevated FBG levels are a major issue in T2DM...main cause: excessive nocturnal glucose production from liver...Current treatments for correction of elevated FBG are suboptimal"

...HAW!!!...well. let's see, elevated blood glucose levels are the problem, period, in diabetes 1 or 2, fasting or otherwise...the core issue being the failure of the body to utilize the glucose due either to lack of insulin (type 1)or insulin resistance (type 2)...

...the "main cause"???...proof???...where I come from, the "main" cause is insulin resistance that arises in consequence of the fat #$%$ inability to stop cramming food down their gullets!...not to mention that insulin resistance is demonstrated bay BOTH fat and liver cells so delivery via the portal vein is not necessarily going to affect it...moreover, I can't find any evidence that portal vein delivery would improve outcomes period...in which case, the FDA would expect ORMP to shoulder the burden of demonstrating that an oral insulin would in fact produce better outcomes in treatment -- something that would likely require who knows how many hundreds of patients and who knows how many years....

..."current treatments...suboptimal"?????...hardly!...most current treatments work fine!...the sulfonylurea drugs enhance pancreatic islet sensitivity to glucose, leading to increased insulin secretion, suppression of hepatic glucose production, and a decline in the steady-state fasting glucose level and work just fine...unfortunately, the two BEST ones -- STOP eating so damn much and get off your lazy butt and EXCERCISE -- are the ones patients find difficult to comply with...
