    RCL v CCL

What are ppl's thoughts on the two stocks. I bought both but curious what the competitive advantages of either one are, if any. Are they basically the same?

    • I like NCLH better right now because its operating margin is nearly 17% vs 10% for RCL & CCL. NCLH has a much lower PEG ratio indicating it could move up more over the next year. Also NCLH fleet is newer.

      I like all three.

    • I bought RCL last week at 52.00,I really like the 2 cruise companies

    • Stocktrader, I am an investor not a trader. I have been watching and investing in these two stocks since their IPOs. I have made money on both but have also sold and bought back. Currently most analysts seem to prefer RCL in spite of their heavy debt load because of mostly good metrics. On the other hand, CCL has had it well published problems with ship incidents and some poorer metrics.
I have found in my many years of experience with these two stocks that analysts tend to only look at metrics. In this case RCL looks better than CCL. However, IMO they don't often have a feel for how the company works,
Now, IMO, CCL is great well oiled machine with a lot of bright and experienced employees. Only trouble with them is that they are too young and too involved with the younger generation that are dependent on their "devices"- that is their iPads, iPhones, etc. They didn't realize that buying cruise is not like buying a less complex item over the internet.
Also, they alienated the travel agent community by cutting down on old-fashioned live service people. Travel agents don't want to hear from an phone operator, "Sorry, you have to go to our web site to get that information." One travel agent told me, "Screw them, I will call RCL (or NCLH) and be able to talk with somebody who can answer all my clients questions."
Plus, they were making a concerted effort to get customers away from travel agents to their own phone reservationists. That was just two of the many complaints that the travel agents made to CCL when they finally had face to face meeting with large groups of agents. In case you didn't know, travel agents do a large share of cruise bookings and have the power to influence potential cruisers as to which line and which ship to cruise on.
I have heard analysts at the conference calls question the accounting line called "commissions' and ask why they can't book directly with the line and save this expense. I have heard Arison say because the cruisers have too man
