Some of the failing banks say they are fine right up to the end. If someone knows something good about HMPR, that's great. But, you could be leading people into losing a lot of money on HMPR stock...
All small and midsized bank stocks are down recently. I suspect for good reason. I must say that as HMPR goes lower I am getting interested again. It is obvious that a lot of these banks need to raise capital. The question for HMPR is how much can they raise.
Actually, based on my phone conversation today, we will ALL find out how the company is doing very shortly! I wish you the best in your investment decisions! Right now, I am comfortable with mine!
"Virginia is doing very well in comparison to the rest of the country!"
Gateway Financial was much larger than Hampton Roads Bankshares ... and it had its headquarters and substantial operations in NC ... so you just can't look at Va. NC has to be a big problem for HMPR.
They certainly have their hands full in California and Florida!! So far, they have not had to close down one Virginia bank!! With a 6.3% unemployement and a strong D of D support, Virginia is doing very well in comparison to the rest of the country!
"There has to date not been one bank failure in Virginia!"
Gateway Bank was in NC. A lot of HMPR's operations are in NC ... and banks are failing in NC.
