Most of the trades through the day were in the 7 1/2 range, then at the last some in the 7 with the closing bouncing back up with clearing the books. The spread was that much. As you said, I guess they want it to appear positive but it really doesn't matter to the market maker. They make money if there is a lot of volume. The market maker could care less which way it goes as they cash in up or down. In the long run as things improve, the volume will pick up and the market maker will do better anyway.
