I think that John Chambers (Cisco) will acquire ALU and divest itself of Alcatel to France ! Think that the anti-trust issue will be ignored in favor of retaining 50,000 Lucent jobs in the US=JMHO-GLTA !
A resulting 70% market share in Edge routers (now), and 70%+ market share in Core routers (by end of 2014) for CSCO after buying ALU would NOT be ignored....especially since the only real competitor at that point would be JNPR.
I'm not sure that would be so good. If he buys the U.S. assets, the best part of the company, the money would go to the now all-French company, Alcatel, which would be free to burn up that cash like they have with the proceeds of previous sales. Remember, we are shareholders in the French company, not an American one.
