I've noticed all the usual tech commentators are hailing improvements in manufacturing as the reason iPad ship times are down to just 24 hours. Is nobody on earth even asking the question that maybe, just perhaps, demand for the iPad (and other luxury purchases) might be cooling off as the economy and consumer confidence is slumping?
I noticed a couple weeks ago ship times were down to 3-5 days on the Apple store. Now they are down to a single day.
I'm not saying demand is definitely cooling. But I am not seeing any critical thinking whatsoever in regards to this story that the business and tech sites have been reporting. They have all formed together in a circle jerk to celebrate the sudden availability of iPad to all the customers desperately waiting in line to get one.
No Way. I just went to an off-site for work and every single manager had one. There is nothing that can compete with the iPAD at this time. Adroid tablets are coming but as with smart phones it seems that companies are approving the iPhones for work prior to any Adroid phones
I'm not seeing any serious corporate adoption of iPads whatsoever. There may be some sporadic cases but it's hard to imagine any serious business bringing this toy into the workplace. I could be wrong though it's unlikely.
Don't worry Apple will come out with an new one in weeks. Typical Apple the will add one new option at a time. General public is so stupid they will buy them all.
It's just like the housing bubble, the iPad bubble. Buy the next one and sell the old one to your poor friend.
Only "real" apple users know when and how to buy. Sometimes it's great to buy the first version but not the iPad, they are going to milk this product for the next few years.
"So why should you THINK that "luxury purchases" for the iPad have cooled off?"
1. Sales of expensive, none essential items are cooling off. That's why we're heading into a double dip recession and the Fed is threatening to take preventative action.
2. Stock of iPad is no longer hard to obtain. It's widely available in both retail and online with no wait times anymore. I doubt production has been ramped up so significantly that the current buy rate no longer commands any kind of wait time. That is not Apple's style.
IPAD is an EXPENSIVE device, HYPED by the Media because they think they can make $$ out of it.
People cannot afford $499 laptops.. How can they afford $699 Ipads.
Once the Rich people and the tech freaks are done buying, there won't be anyone left.
And the media will have to provide their BS content for free.. make $$ on advertising.
Backorder for 5 months is incredible, you should be able to buy on the spot, that is not "abnormal"...production has been ramped up considerably from the orignal numbers, have faith in this one....
