Chew on this shorts....
The same time last year, when Apple destroyed earnings at $13.30 (nearly $4 above company consensus), Verizon sold 7.7 million phones for the same quarter, with 4.3 million being Iphones. The sales represented 50% of Verizon sales.
This year, in the wake of all the gloom and doom, Verizon sold 9.8 million phones, with 6.2 million accounting for Iphone. That's 58% of all phones sold at Verizon.
So looking at Apple's best ever quarter last year, against this year's Verizon numbers, why the heck are so many people down on this stock????
Few more points.
Last year's Verizon numbers had an extra week of sales, and were still much lower than this year.
Last year Apple wasn’t selling Iphone AT ALL in China yet. No sales went into that quarter. This year they are selling like hot cakes at China Unicom and Telecom this past quarter (2 million in first day of sales).
Lastly, there was no Ipad mini last year, no revamp of macbook, mac pro, etc.
Sentiment: Strong Buy
BOOM! Remember, Tim Cook said after visiting with China Mobile and the Industry Info and Tech Minister recently, that "China is currently our second largest market. I believe it will become our first. I believe strongly that it will,"
Cook said that he believes China will become Apple’s most important market in the “not too distant future.”
My opinion is that he wouldn't make a statement like that to be published in the Chinese media if he didn't have China Mobile in the bag, as it could compromise his bargaining position, but who knows. One thing we know by the 2 million Iphone5 sold in first three days of sales in China in December, is that Apple is getting some real traction there and that China and their growing, upwardly mobile consumer class should provide a nice growth for a while, especially if China Mobile comes aboard, and this is regardless of whether or not Apple comes out with some new whiz bang gadget that creates or expands a new market segment.
This isn't advice or a suggestion to buy or sell any securities.
As of this writing I am long apple related securities that I may choose to hold or sell at any time.
zero... .and here lies the beauty. There were zero phones in that report last year. This year? We have three phones selling in China. They sold 2 million in 2 days during December to kick the Iphone 5 sales process off.
Add to this the iPad mini was the hottest seller last quarter with almost everyone having it on their Christmas list! Apple had the best quarter ever last year. Their product were the most desired for the holidays. Go Apple
Sentiment: Strong Buy
I appreciate your sentiment, but your numbers seem to be wrong.
Last year Apple reported EPS at $13.87, not $13.30
Last year the iPhone comprised 55.8% of Verizon phone sales, not 50%
This year the iPhone comprised 63.3% of Verizon phone sales, not 58%
And, as you say, this iPhone growth at Verizon took place in a quarter with only 12 weeks, rather than 13.
Last year Verizon comprised 11.61% of World-wide iPhone sales
Due to expansion of international availability we can assume that Verizon's importance has shrunk slightly.
Let's be very conservative. Lets say Verizon now only makes up 11% of world-wide sales.
That would mean that Apple sold 58 million iPhones. Yes, 58 million. Analysts are expecting 48-52 million.
If Verizon's share of world-wide sales is 10%, then Apple sold 63.7 million phones
If Verizon's share of world-wide sales is 9%, then Apple sold 70.8 million phones
Shorts, I am not trying to trash talk you. but seriously. just cover now. there is no reason why we all cant be winners. This earnings call is going to be a blow out.
Just tired of the gloom and doom reports out there. Now is the time where the rubber hits the road. No opinions, BS or fakes. Real facts. Verizon sales today were real numbers, hard numbers.
