Icahn also took a swipe at those who sold off the company’s stock, saying on CNBC that they “completely misinterpreted” Apple’s results and opportunities for growth.
“I believe there was a major positive in Apple’s message when Tim Cook stated that within the year new products in new categories will finally be introduced,” Icahn said to CNBC’s Scott Wapner. “It should be noted that the last new products in a new category was introduced four years ago. It was called the iPad.”
Icahn added that the long-term view on Apple is “completely unchanged” and that it is “even more compelling for Apple to buy back stock now.”
