Pandora Windows phone app release adds 6M more possible listeners to the ranks!
Pandora is providing ad-free service to all that create an account on the Windows mobile platform till the end of the year with their newly released app. Windows had 2.6% market share by the end of 2012 which translates to 6 million users. Pandora commands 75% of all streaming music listeners. Roughly 45% of all smartphone users utilize Pandora. Thats about 2.7 million more users overnight. Best part is since they are receiving ad-free service, the liklihood that these will convert to paid subscribers by year end is relatively high. Say just 50% convert to paid subscription will have a significant impact to metrics. If not, they go in the ad-supported pool. Windows mobile app has extended features which may increase the percentage of converts.
Either way, this is a huge step in the right direction.
It’s great to get into bed with Microsoft and bump up our listener audience as well, but we are going to have to pay to do it. It will hurt our bottom line today, but the future payoffs will be well worth it.
What were we going to do with that $90 million in cash anyway?
