Google has now secured itself a phone maker, and one that has had success in the industry, though it's been a little while now. Motorola has been selling phones mostly with AT&T and Verizon sets, but Sprint may be a target now that it has more money and more backing at its disposal.

"Additionally, MetroPCS has been on the hunt for new spectrum, the airwaves over which wireless networks operate, and has held talks with a number of companies about opportunities to buy or lease it, said Carter at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference .
In particular, MetroPCS would be interested in a deal with wholesale provider Clearwire Corp. (CLWR) for its excess spectrum, said Carter. He said Clearwire's spectrum could be used in MetroPCS's largest metropolitan markets. A Clearwire spokesman declined to comment."
