Until PacBio can lower their ~20% error rate or Oxford Nanopore actually shows us a working macine I don't see a lot of threats on the 3rd generation front. Illumina is held back by an academic market saturated with its products. They have to keep pushing the clinical side until they relent.
The Helicos patents are tissue paper as show by the last case summarily dismissed in court. We know you are unhappy with Helicos' failure, but why don't you just move on.
