Sell VMW ....BUY $6.50 NOVL (with $1.5 billion in cash).
NOVL LEADING VIRTUALIZATION PLATFORM
Yeah good one, check who wrote the article...
"By Roger Levy, senior vice president and general manager, Novell"
Then check this out: http://www.novell.com/linux/
A very objective article, for sure! hahaha
NOVL @ $6.50 Mkt Cap $2.2 Billion with $1.5 billion in CASH
VMW @$80.00 Mkt Cap $30 Billion with far less cash.
NOVL in a NEW PRODUCT CYCLE will be #1 in Virtulization.
NOVL is "Partners" with MSFT VISTA in intregrating
VISTA with NOVL SUSE for those companys that want
VISTA but cost savings and ease of use of LINUX.
ONLY NOVL has this type of partnership with MSFT.
I don't follow your logic.
According to Marketwatch, NOVL has about $1b in cash, VMware has over $1.1b.
SuSe is a Linux distro Novell bought. SuSe makes money _only_ when customers buy support. So the income potential is limited compared to VMware, who profits from licenses and support.
As with all Xen distributions, the vendor must either a) publish the source code to any changes they make, rendering the improvements free for all and allowing VMware to make similar improvements in their proprietary code, or b) keep the changes proprietary which causes yet another Xen version which will almost certainly be incompatible with the many other Xen versions out there. Have not doubt, Xen is doomed to version fragmentation.
You mention all those customers who want Vista but with the ease of use of Linux. Who would that be? No one seems to want Vista, as evidenced by the many customers who find Vista on their newly purchased computers and revert them back to Windows XP. And since when was Linux ever easy to use? In order to properly administer Linux systems, the administrator needs a degree in computer science. In order to administer Windows systems, the administrator needs a two week course and some computer experience.
I believe your assertion that only Novell has this kind of relationship with Microsoft. This does not imply that any one else couldn't get that relationship if they wanted, or that any one wants it.
Forget it, my_thinking !
These longs are nothing but blind idiots trying to protect their Long interest. I am pretty sure only few of them have ever worked on VMWare and hardly any one of them have even given XEN a try.
They still are in denial that XEN has a better (proven) virtualization technology than VMW and is the only platform which can give near-native performance unlike VMW.
2 weeks back, I upgraded our Novell SLES 9 to SLES 10 which comes integrated with a XEN hypervisor and was blown by its ease of use. It was not the case with SLES 9.
The longs will learn it the hard way when this stock will trade in the low $30s 3-6 months from now.
I am routinely surprised at how many people think VMware will be killed by free software.
I've noticed, while watching companies prosper and fail, "better" is in the eye of the beholder, to paraphrase. Many MSFT customers consider Linux distributions to be "better" in many respects than Windows. Yet Windows continues.
Jamiejz, you give me the impression that although you may work with software at your job, you are not responsible for purchasing decisions. That would be a function of the management above you. At best, you are what sales professionals call a "recommender". As a recommender, you are in the minority recommending SuSe or Xen.
Most of the technical recommender's I've met have gained enough business savvy to look beyond the features they like in a product, and instead look at the big pictures. Issues such as ability to get tech support, support from other software vendors, ease of use, Total Cost of Ownership, etc, are the basis for business decisions.
P.S. Xen is _not_ proven to be better than VMware ESX server. If you have some evidence to the contrary, please present it in this forum. Xen uses paravirtualization, which may work adequately for Linux applications, but works quite poorly for Windows applications. Windows applications comprise the majority of the x86 datacenter. You can learn more about VMware performance here: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/hypervisor_performance.pdf
Jaiejz,Pardon my french but you R FOS. VMWare stretches far beyond Xen. You are only invested in telling these half truths because you are a short. Or you are
unaware or uninformed. Please write to VMW and challenge them with your nonsense and then post your letter and their reply. Anything to keep you busy and away from this board. I am so tired of Xen is this and that I can't take it anymore.
I would say before you post some information here, make sure you do your homework first as i dont think you have any idea on what is virtualization is all about and what can VMWARE can do other than any beginner competitor. Dont just base your analysis on that piece of shit$ paper..
All you need to do is scare people off from here. You think people here is as dumb as you? why dont you just get off here and find a descent job were it will bring you descent salary. Ignore you from this board..
