FIAT has barely sold half of the number of 500s it expected to sell this year ... it has a 6-month inventory of the little cars:
Oh, and the 500 may be the next queen of the rental lots - Enterprise has been adding them to its rental fleet. Automakers don't dump "the next big thing" in rental fleets unless they can't move the iron.
So much for FIAT taking the US market by storm!
Fiat and Chrysler aren't known for their quality. The 500 seems to be overpriced for its size and content. Scion iQ looks as if it will be the benchmark for small cars. It's an incredible package.
If j lo's fiat ride ever collided with a 3/4 ton truck, she wouldn't have to worry about "looking good" again. Personal safety should be the top priority in anything you drive. It might cost a few bucks more, but how much value do you tack onto your brain??
Not sure why they ever thought this car would do well here. It's not Europe, and never will be.
Those cars are great in European cities, especially in those older cities. We don't have old cities. We don't have small roads, we don't have expensive gas. Therefore, we don't need a Fiat 500. Pretty simple to me.
"we don't have expensive gas" Say what ?????
If Fiat came out with a car that got 100mpg, buyers would line
up around the block. If Fiat had an $8000 car, buyers would line
up around the block. The problem is that only gets 34mpg, and
looks like it should cost $8000, though it costs twice the price.
It's not looking good. 29 dealers had no sales of the car at all last month.
Is it marketing, or is it the car? J-lo looks pretty good in the commercial, probably better than the car.
>>Is it marketing, or is it the car?<<
The car and the marketing have both been lackluster, so .... I'd say it's six of one and half-a-dozen of the other. :-)
I talked to one guy who rented a 500. He said that it was an incredibly cheap little car. At just 6000 miles, it rattled like it had 60,000 miles on it. He also said that he could wiggle the entire climate-control cluster with just one of the knobs, and the choppy ride was no surprise.
Maybe they'd sell a few more if they threw in J-Lo????
Ford stock is crashing and you're worried about an ugly Italian car?
Consider the new Ford Focus is selling in numbers no better than the previous outdated model. Supply issues stopped being an issue as per Ford for October sales, yet the numbers were no better. November and December will be your guide to future sales. A 3 billion dollar investment is yielding very little return domestically. Higher priced models with the same volume sales will not make this a success. Ford needs volume to pick it. It simply hasn't on the new Focus.
Right now, jury still out on success of Focus...and tipping towards disappointment.
