ConocoPhillips Message Board

Considering investing n COP. Question for board: What is real reason COP shut down Kenai LNG? I understand the supply issue they raised when closed down, but COP is an E&P- why are they not producing the gas that is needed? The larger issue I can't seem to understand is if LNG will be the great earnings driver it is being touted as. I personally have bought in the LNG thesis and invested in D, VSN as the DOE has been approving export licenses. BUT here we have an actual operating LNG facility and the state is begging COP to restart? Just doesn't seem to make sense. I mean the cost of building a new LNG facility far outweighs bringing gas to Kenai, but yet COP isn't moving or even talking about it in their presentations. If I could get some serious thoughts on this, thank you. Ken

    • it is not that difficult, because of tax policies that were confiscatory that were put in by Sarah Palin the oil companies quit drilling in alaska, then you have the US govt that won't allow pipelines to be built. With the Balkans and other areas in the lower 48 they could no longer compete. There is almost not enough oil to run the alaskan pipeline, alaska tried lowering the tax rate but now the public is doing a referendum to overturn bcasuse they liked the tax rebate but they are killing themselves as they are butchering the golden goose. Alaska so rich in oil and gas yet the govt and greed by the unknowledgable public will end their eating at the tax trough. You have to let business make money or they will go elsewhere. Why is that so hard for people to understand??
