New LCM product for iPad Mini?

    From their press release:

"The Company is currently under discussion with its existing customers, as essential production partners, for the manufacturing of another LCM product, which the Company believes will continue to drive the expansion of its existing production capacity and production facilities."

Most are guessing the current LCM for tablets is for the iPad and the LCM for phones is the iPhone. So is the potential new LCM contract possibly for the iPad Mini?

    • I think it is a good possibility.

Remember, Apple has to move all panel production from Samsung in the next 12 months.

Apple HAS to source new suppliers. I think that is part of the reason NTE was given some of the work in the first place.

      We'll see.

      • dtejd, Samsung has nothing to do with ipad mini display production. It's LG Display and AU Optronics.

The ipad mini is unlikely to be a high volume item with its current specs and price anyway.

There are many other big opportunities. For instance, the new ereader displays from Japan Display would be well suited to something like the kindle or nook.

    • Possible, but pretty unlikely. The makers of the displays for the ipad mini have never been Nam Tai customers, and the ipad mini is already in production so it's unlikely new display makers are being added now. Also, from the wording it sounds like it's from a current customer or customers such as Japan Display or Sharp. However, that leaves quite a lot of possibilities because both of those companies are coming out with some fantastic new products. Sharp has IGZO displays, and Japan Display has a whole host of them that I posted about the other day including a color/motion epaper low power display, a whitemagic display, and others. Both have very high ppi products coming out too.
