    Glass - Google's big hope

As per recent news, Baidu, China's largest search engine, is developing prototype digital eyewear similar to Google's Glass. The product is expected to leverage Baidu's strengths in image search and face recognition. The product is already in the testing stage. Google is likely to come out with its product within this year. A company spokesman informed that the Baidu device ( called “Baidu eye”) will be mounted on a headset with a small LCD screen, and will allow users to make image and voice searches as well as conduct face recognition matches. As per reports, the much anticipated Google Glass can live-stream images and audio and perform computing tasks. Such concepts, are attempts to emancipate oneself from carrying laptops / tablets, and still be able to perform the searches on the net and stay connected. Even Apple is experimenting with a wrist device (instead of eyewear) to enable users to perform similar tasks. Technology companies survive on such innovations and it is possible that the funky looking Google Glass becomes the next big thing in the tech world. It is expected to be expensive, but with iterations and maturity, the costs may come down, and the product may, literally, change the face of humans. The patents related to these products / technologies are going to be astronomically valued. Other companies are likely to be on the lookout for opportunities for patent infringements lawsuits. Recently, a subsidiary of Document Security System (DSS) filed a lawsuit against biggies like Facebook alleging that it had infringed on its patents. These patents are allegedly the essence of Facebook experience. If the lawsuit holds, the value of that is likely to be unbelievable. Other companies like Marathon Patents Group (MARA) with lawsuit against Sony, Dell etc., and MGT Capital Investment (MGT) with infringement case against gaming companies, are also in the news. GOOG has to remain extra careful.
