    "The York Road property is about to cross the line from excessively shopworn to downright seedy. A broken clock adorns the second floor of the two-story structure; boards cover the front of one of several former first-level businesses; and a huge pothole and abandoned car mar the parking lot."

    I can sure see why you wouldn't want to replace all that delapidation with a brand new Walgreens drug store.

    "Next to the empty shopping center is a serene patch of grass and trees that once was a roadbed and has been kept up for years by the community; on a recent balmy early evening, no one was using it."

    The Walgreens parking lot would take up a PORTION of this property. That would be a real shame. Then there would be less space to sit back and relax and view the boarded up, rat infested, neighboring lot.

    Yeah, but what about the rats? Walgreens would be destroying prime rat habitat. Aren't they an endangered species? What does the Humane Society have to say about all this?

    City Councilman Robert W. Curran, who introduced the bill on behalf of BDC,
    "I'd love to see a Ruth's Chris [Steakhouse] or LongHorn Steakhouse there, but no one's come to the table," he said. "The worst thing is for [the site] to be vacant for another three or four years."

    Wouldn't be the worst thing for the rats.

    "Well-known private planner Alfred W. Barry III, who works for the owner of a shopping center next door that is anchored by a Rite Aid, has rallied residents against the project."
