On the upside, WAG has little debt (no gain from rate reduction), no huge risk element (geriatric market, aging clientele unlikely to change pharma-sources) and no radical strategies or plans (i.e., nothing new) to create additional risk for shareholders.
Give Walgreens a #1 for resistance to the VIX... it is one of the ultimate, stodgy and likely moribund players in an otherwise lively and dynamic health/pharma-care industry.
On the downside, WAG is facing $4 generic scripts on (potentially) up to 2400 medicines which represent the vast majority of its corporate formulary... at meager-meal margins, if WAG can even attempt to compete with the BigBoxBoys...and... is facing reduced MedicAid reimbursement rates on prescriptions, new competition from mailorder and internet sources that offer same service at hugely lower prices, and PBM-integrated competition from CVS who controls an extra level of the economic pharma-foodchain.
The risk vs. reward is there from which you can clearly make a choice. Most institutional players have already made theirs. Have you dumped this piggie yet?
There's an old saw that says "Do not do as I say, do as I do."
So... what do Walgreens insider transactions tell you, over, say the last 6 months?

Gee, where'd all the employee/pumpers vanish to? Do you think they cashed out and moved over to CVS who, at least, has a vitality and limberness than enables it to innovate and prosper... doubled earnings... "eat your heart out, Waggies!"
But, never fear, the Home Enema Business will surely save you.
Where are the Insider "buys" that scream "upside" to investors?
All there seems to be are "freebie" option share "sales" that signal a run for the exits by management. Surely, managenment compensation can't be so disconnected from shareholder value that executives and directors bailout from WAG stock while outside investors hold the bag?
Hmmmmm. Maybe that is the way that investment in Walgreen's stock works?
