Yes, I am aware of the 7 on 7 off concept, and the 10pm-8am shifts and all of that. But, that's confusing to the simpletons. It's probably easiest to say there are 24 hours in a day, and 168 hours in a week. So if 4 full timers work 160 hours (4 x 40), you need 8 hours of additional coverage. Then, you also need additional coverage for overlap. So yes, you need 4 and a floater. But the floater is not someone who's covering full time.
I think the overarching point is that there are others who haven't a clue about basic math, calc, finance, or pharmacy.
OT: How's the running?
One 24 hour store will have two pharmacists that work the overnight. They work (usually) 10pm - 8am for 7 straight days. Then have seven days off.
They will then have two full time pharmacists plus two days of a part time/floater pharmacist.
Total number of full time pharmacists is 4.
Busier stores may have more overlap.

I love the fact, though, that he had to go INTO a store to figure out that there's 2 midnight pharmacists. HA HA! Which, by the way, is not true. In a 24 hour store, there are roughly 56 "graveyard shift" hours each week. I realize the graveyard schedule is not exactly 7 x 8 hours each day, but I'm trying to keep it simple for our math wizard. So, if I work full time, on average, I work 40 hours each week. Which leaves 16 (56-40). So, that's a FLOATER, brainiac. But the floater covers shifts during the night, and they also cover daytime shifts during days off (not the same person, but another PharmD). So that's where you get one more full time person, for a total of 4. My goodness, basic math: 24 x 7 = 168. 168/40 = 4.2. So four full timers and someone to cover 8 hours each week. Duh.

For every 24hr store there are 2 MIDNIGHT pharmacists working alternating 7d shifts....thus, for every 24hr store closed u have 2 FTE competing with floaters for remaining hours....the very same hours that have now been reduced because the 8-10 stores are now 9-9.

So what? I was on this board months before WAG announced their “POWER” program, stating that the system would be moving to a central fill model. I also stated that future profits were going to come from improving efficiency of operation sources and NOT from an increase in rx volume. I projected across the board reductions in reimbursement which is currently taking place. The possibility of the movement of the system to a standardized CLOSED national formulary is very very strong. Such a switch will lead to significant savings in cost via the prices that Big Pharma charges. It would be harmful to retail but catastrophic to large PBM/mailorder operations. Unfortunately for them they only have collectively 20% of the market so who cares? Once the “public option” figures out that a CLOSED FORMULARY will generate a significant savings, the Genie will be out of the box. Private health insurers would love a Closed Formulary. You won’t see any complaints from them……
OK, let's do some math. There's approximately 750 stores in Florida. I don't have the numbers, but of those stores, I'm sure you'll agree that the vast majority of the stores are NOT 24 hour stores. In the 24 hour stores, you get 3 shifts, and a need for 4 pharmacists (3 x 8 = 24 plus one pharmacist to cover days off).
The remainder of the stores are 9-9. Two pharmacists. Now, please tell me: If I have say, 600 stores with 2 pharmacists each, and I wanted to "fire" 700 pharmacists, I'd have to close locations, right?
Now, most Walgreens pharmacies had been open from 8a-10p, necessitating a floater. The floater has responsibilities to several stores, as this person covers extra time and days off. However, in late 2007 and early 2008, the new hours made these folks not necessary. Where did they go? Many went to POWER. Were they "fired"? No.
Many pharmacists in South Florida moved (at Walgreens expense) to central Florida and started the POWER project. Others in South Florida decided to leave and not relocate. I'm sure a shrinking of store hours caused some to be disgruntled. They wound up complaining that the floater schedule they had worked themselves into over the years had gone away.
So sure, when you rightsize an organization, a few are expected to not have their expectations met. Were they "fired"? A resounding NO. Was it 700 like the irresponsible previous poster stated, without any evidence, not even anecdotal? NO.
Still, for investors on the investor board, trimming expenses while growing revenues is a good thing. Duh.
C'mon man...do u really think it is that out of the question for 700 RPh's to not be needed due to central fill?
Think about how many stores are in Fl...and if POWER resulted in one RPH from each store not being needed...or maybe for every store in FL...you took one FTE from a brick/mortar store and replaced them with 0.5 FTE at the cent fill location....what do u have?

I made another trip to my local WalMart today to get the rest of my prescription that was partial-filled last week. First I had to navigate the refuse strewn parking lot, walk over 300 yards to the front door and try and get by an extremely overweight greeter by the name of Danbert! Danbert was propped up in the front of the store, apparently asleep, leaning against a row of shopping carts and giving off the usual odor associated with being a pile of pig bleep. His smock was covered with an assortment of stains that I assume was food or drink and there was an obvious stream of jelly running down the front of his shirt from a previous doughnut. A little old grandmother tried to take a shopping cart from the row of carts that Danbert was leaning against causing him to topple over backwards and the loud crash when Danbert hit the floor was almost seismic! I managed to get around the huge pile of Danbert that lay on the floor and made my way to the pharmacy only to find out that the pharmacist had gone on his lunch break!! 30 minutes later when he finally came back he told me that they were once again out of my pills. I had had enough and transferred ALL of my prescriptions to the Walgreens a block away. I skipped the rain check frustration and headed out and as I made my way through the front door I noticed that three or four managers were trying to get Danbert back on his feet with little success and I also noticed that along with some snack cakes that had fallen out of Danberts' pockets was a copy of the Atkins Diet book that apparently he had been reading before he dozed off! It didn't appear to be working for him, as I hear it is hard to get your body to go into ketosis when a constant stream of fatty food and high calorie sodas is being ingested. I will miss the filthy bathrooms of WalMart, but not their foul smelling and corpulent greeter named Danbert!
Not any more than any other chain.. mistakes happen, yes, but WAG is a leading company when it comes to innovations for safety. Sorry to disappoint you. Do you have a link for your outrageous claim, that WAG pharmacists are "screwing up prescriptions in Florida" at rates in excess of any other organization? Huh, boi toi xxx? Do ya? Do ya?

I believe they are adding beer and wine, not "Liqueur", which, I assume, you meant to say "liquor". Unless of course you meant drinks like Baileys and other cordials. However, if you were a real investor and listened to the conference call, you would have learned what top management's strategy is.
