Not getting much info but it sounds like at least a couple of dozen higher paid employees were asked to leave. Many of them got an ok severance package. Hard to understand how a million or two is going to make much difference to the bottom line but it is clear management is trying to outsource everything it can. Could be that just makes sense. It has taken Walgreens a very long time to adopt a screw the employees, worry about the shareholders attitude. As sad as that may be it could be the right thing to do - if you are a shareholder. On the other hand , as time goes by there are going to be about 180,000 employees that wish a Walgreen was still running the company.
