    Dividend comment on Mad Money

tonight (8/12/10) on Mad Money, Cramer said "for a soon to be big dividend buy Agnico-Eagle". Can anyone explain what he means? How big a dividend and when? Thanks.

    • ""And do you believe, as I do, that it's long overdue for a divvie increase by Goldcorp? "

I do, but be patient it's coming. They are trying to get fully operational Penasquito. It's a huge project. The cash flow is already substantial. It's about to get really serious. GG will come through with significant increases in coming quarters in my opinion."

Whoops. Post overpaying for Andean we will have to see. This is what comes of the boom mentality and is why you want to own the crappy juniors. The big guys are on the prowl and apparently not satisfied to make a boat load of money and pay it out to their shareholders. We may be entering the Empire Building Phase which can be hazardous to a shareholder's health...if they drink the kool-aid along side management.

    • "Again, "big" and "large" are relative terms, especially with an .18 divvy paid once a year."

Think about it. They were in the process of opening 4 mines. Not likely to be increasing the dividend until the mines are open and productive. Now they are...duh...

    • As you well know, some companies are sitting on huge amounts of cash, but will never pay a divvy. APPL is but one example. Some pay huge divvies, even though they selling at next to nothing, as FTR. As to mining stocks, each must be viewed individually. The two you mention could well afford to be more "charitable" with their stockholders.

    • Agreed that this is a company that ought to support a $.50 divvie right now. What do you think of the moves by Goldcorp and Franco Nevada to pay monthly? And do you believe, as I do, that it's long overdue for a divvie increase by Goldcorp?

    • My bet is that's just another of Cramer's off the wall statements which has little foundation in fact. The divvy is so low now, any significant increase is unlikely.

    • I missed this comment, but Sean Boyd has said on Cramer's show before that a dividend increase was being considered. Perhaps a call to the IR shop may offer insight.
