    What does the sale:

Of the graphics division mean for shareholder
VALUE?? We are trading around 20-24 range now when we
sale this part of the company 1) should this increase
the over all value of SIII and 2) well they give some
of the cash as a special DIV to shareholders??

    • "SIII can save a lot of tax by transferring the
shares (some of the UMC) to a Taiwanese based company.
Consider VIA and SIII co-own a new graphics company and
pay tax in Taiwan. Cooperate tax in Taiwan is much
      less than here. "

      These ideas never occured to
me but they are very significant. Thanks for the
good thinking. Plus the Intel problems with VIA can be
resolved with a bit of diplomacy and all will come out
winners. (someone in a recent post implied that VIA, S3
and INTC were at dinner this week in Santa Clara..I
      presume)

      Monday could be interesting. rez

    • Nice follow-up to the joke. Have a good one too. ---JIM

    • Yup! Heard that 'un too, podner... Did you hear
the follow up? A news reporter interviewed the Texan
about his heroic rescue, and posed the following
question: "What if it had been a guy that was choking?" The
Texan thought for a second, then blurted: "A reckon he
woulda died!"...(:>) Have a good weekend, All!

    • 3-4 times its revenue, annual or
      quarterly?

SIII reported $180M revenue last Q with 80% of it
coming from the graphics division. That will be ~$600M
      (annual) revenue from graphics division.

      Are you
saying the graphics division should be sold at $1.8B to
      $2.4B?

I think SIII will bundle some of the UMC
shares with the sale. It will be of special interest to
VIA. SIII can save a lot of tax by transferring the
shares to a Taiwanese based company. Consider VIA and
SIII co-own a new graphics company and pay tax in
Taiwan. Cooperate tax in Taiwan is much less than here.

    • Subject: DID YOU HEAR THE ONE ABOUT THE TWO
      TEXANS?

Two Texans were having lunch at their favorite
      restaurant
when they noticed a young woman at the next table
      having trouble breathing.
One of the Texans got up,
walked to her table, took her face in his big Texan
hands and said, "Kin ya =
      swaller?"
      She shook
her head "No." "Kin ya breath?" Again she shakes her
      head "No."
The Texan grabs her around the waist
      with one of his

      big Texan hands, turns her
      over, pulls up her shirt,
      pulls down her panties and
licks her right on the =
      bottom.
      Of course the
young woman was so shocked that
      she coughed causing
the food to dislodge. The big Texan

      pulls up
her panties, pulls down her shirt, turns her
      right
side up, tips his hat and returns to his seat.
      His
companion is sitting there stunned. "I have

      neva
seen anything like that in my whole life!" he
      says

      to his heroic friend.
"YEAH, I TELL YA, THAT HIND
      LICK MANEUVER WORKS EVERY =
      TIME!

    • expect it to sell for 3-4 times its revenue

    • what the graphics division would sell for?

      Thanks,

      Echo

    • information floating around the net about the
sale of SIII graphics section. It also appears that a
deal is immanant. However, it further appears it is
not going to be well recieved by the investing
      community. That has me worried.

    • If graphics is sold for 1.6 b. $ and UMC is worth
1b. $, that means the company has 2.6 billion US $,
this is nearly 30$ in cash for one share? (minus
      tax)

+ the value of the "rest" of S3 (webpad, Rio,
      homenetworking, MP3 stuff ...)
