actually, local dial tone is the greatest bargain today. It's the long distance that is high, but getting cheaper. You want low cost? Compared to what it cost for years until 1985, at 8.95 for basic rate, and today, at less than 16 dollars, is a bargain. Consider that you pay 3.95 for a 12 oz cup of flavored coffee at Starbucks, and then another 4 dollars for a roll, you could have paid half of your basic rate phone bill, in California, which has the cheapest dialtone in the USA.
My cable modem and Vonage is cheaper than your so called cheap service. When BPL rolls around. Ill get broadband for 19.95 a month, and Vonage for 14.99 Way cheaper and CWA free. SBC offers DSL for about 30 bucks a month, then the phone bill etc. Local dial tone is a rip off Go watch the fat operators strip off their red shorts on the picket line and hallucinate some more CWAers Scheeeeechhhh
Time will tell the Vonage story. And that story will likely be short. Certainly shorter than a hundred years...whose networks do you think the Vonage service is running over anyway? Not their own I promise you.
You are truly an idiot. The MARKET rate for each long distance minute is essentially zero. Long distance is only high when you buy it from an RBOC. Unless SBC gets its rates straight and its costs WAY down, they're dead. Can you say ... asset write offs???
Rates are not far off...costs are another story. Are you saying is costs 'essentially zero' to provide long distance service and to grow and maintain the network? Please tell me that is not the basis of your argument. If so, who will provide these services for 'essentially zero'?
Hum, the RBOCS are undercutting A T and T, did you miss that one? And I posted info on the basic rate, did you miss that one? What are you going off about? Having a problem with your MIC circuit? Can't get anybody to look at if for 3 days? Got slammed by A T and T?
