Saco is the more important referendum to win next week because an option for land to build the racino is already secured. But Saco passed the November referendum by a fairly narrow margin, and is shaky to approve next week.
Westbrook is likely to pass next week, they approved in November by a wide margin. But 50 acres for a racino is proving difficult to find. To stay within the 5 mile limit from the current track, land options are limited and may be expensive.
So, Saco is the key. Westbrook will be problematic.
The economy in Maine doesn't seem too good, lots of stories about layoffs and plant closings. I'm hoping the promise of jobs will win the day.
