I arrrived at this board researching/benchmarking
companies in comparison to the publishing company Reed
Elsevier. I have been following RUK for awhile. I like the
company's continued investment in electronic information
services; LEXIS-NEXIS, Mathew Bender, Shepards, ect... The
stock seems a good value to me now, but with the lack
of analysts reports and reading annual reports based
in Sterling I am seeking additional input. If
anybody has any insights I would appreciate your input.
RUK has a message board on Yahoo.

    • Of the JW A shares, there is a float of about 25%
of 12 Million shares, which is why it only trades
5-6,000 shares per day. I think the family recognizes
that JW is a prize property and that this may be the
      most opportune time to sell.

    • Javide--Reed is a good buy, even though their
merger with WK fell through. That merger looked better
for WK all the while, until they got uppity and Reed
decided to put them in their place to be
them...on the sci/tech side Reeds journals are legacy
products, bringing in a steady income for decades, and on
the legal/info tech side they seem to be running
Lexis/Nexis well--except, I believe they recently had placed
a want ad in the NYT looking for a few VP's, which
makes me nervous when a company loses a handful of VP's
at once...and then looks for them in the

Reed has a good business model, knows what they want
(which is exceedingly rare in a publishing house these
days), seems to have the banking clout to support their
acquisitions and development, and, perhaps most importantly of
all, a NY office across from the Limelight...:)...for
all those raging parties they throw...
