Sony is planning to release a 30-inch Ultra HD OLED display with a resolution of 4096 by 2160 for use in the commercial segment, which may come equipped with panels supplied by AU Optronics (AUO), according to industry sources.
Sony has plans to further tackle the Ultra HD OLED display market, but may not be able to release most of the displays sized 30- as well as 50-inch until 2014, added the sources.
The company's reported plans come as Sony recently announced it will launch 55-inch XBR-55X900A and 65-inch XBR-65X900A4K Ultra HD LCD TVs in late April at retail prices of US$4,999.99 and US$6,999.99, respectively.
AUO is expected to supply panels for both the TV displays as well as the commercial displays, noted the sources.
