We, the students of GWSC, are petitioning to stop the use of unethical products as well as the support for leading issues in this world such as exploitation of workers and child labour in Starbucks.
“Ethical Consumer” ranked brands on 19 different categories and found Starbucks indisputably one of the worst due to its stance on workers’ rights and its political activities. It covers everything from serving up genetically engineered growth hormone in milk and a relentless union-busting campaign, attempting to block Ethiopia’s attempts to improve the livelihoods of coffee growers and petitioning a federal judge to allow in evidence the past sexual history of a 16-year-old former employee when she took a case of sexual harassment to court.
Although the firm has sold Fair-trade coffee as standard in all its UK stores since 2009, the rest of the global operation has been slower on the uptake, Ethical Consumer said.
This is our chance as a team to work towards stopping the use of unethical products in Starbucks’ which is affecting many poor people in third world countries. Signing this petition will bring us one step closer to achieving our goals
