Family trust broker told me MLPs aren't required to submit their docs in a timely manner, and often require filing of extensions. That sounds ridiculous. Would appreciate knowing appx. when shareholder filing information was receivied last year. Thanks!
OHI isn't a MLP, it's a REIT. I don't own any MLPs and I don't file early. I wait until the end of March so that if my broker sends an amended form, which always seems to happen, I don't have to amend my return.
Most MLPs send out K1s instead of 1099s. I have several and always receive K1s before 1st of April. Tax preparers don't like K1s as they cause more submissions to the IRS. Also, most preparers don't know how to handle them correctly. Be sure if you do invest in MLPs that your tax preparer has had extensive experience with them. Something to think about before investing in MLPs.
