    Tea Party Train Wreck

The US government shutdown has severed a lifeline for dying children

The partial shutdown has left vital drug trials on hold, which is a matter of life and death for some patients.

Now in its third week, the budget dispute is delaying eight-year-old Chrissy Grube from getting the treatment that could save her.

Like Chrissy, most patients come to the NIH Clinical Center in Maryland as a last resort when all else has failed, hence its nickname, "the house of hope". But with nearly 75% of its staff now at home, NIH has been forced to close its doors to all new patients and clinical trials.

"I really don't care who is at fault. I don't care who did what, all I care about is letting the scientists get back to work, letting them work on a life-saving cure for my children and children with a disease like theirs," says Mr Grube.

    • I can certainly see where you are coming from, but look a little further down the road. The fed is creating fiat dollars at $85 billion per month or about $280 dollars per month per person in lost purchasing power. The fed by aiding and abetting congressional over spending via buying their debt at sky high prices with the only way to pay it back via the future taxing power of congress. That is going to end sooner or later and it will be ugly. What cannot be paid will not be paid. When the time comes, you will not be using individuals as examples, it will be entire cities or communities of folks on the government dole possibly the entire food stamp community. I do not subscribe to any party, dem, repub, or tea whatever, but I do see where there is a faction in our congress that sees the end game coming if we do not change our ways. They are trying to make changes, but frankly they have been inept at getting a clear understandable message conveyed. One thing for sure, status quo is a pathway to ruin for our country. Compassion is not status quo making or trying to keep promises that cannot be kept. It is time to face the facts. The country has been poorly managed for the past 30 or more years and it is time to eliminate the deficit and pay down some of the debt. Interest rates going up will raise the debt service to the point that it will consume virtually all revenues. That is not compasion, it is foolish.

    • Like most R. they claim to love America but they hate Americans.

    • you forgot to mention breathable air potable water wheel chairs crutches cancer research photosynthesis interrupting the food chain firing squads for blind orphans cripples midget infants with diaper rash and endangered species... especially the cute cuddly ones.

yes, we're doomed cuzza the repubs, professor.

It's a wonder you can hang onto enough sanity to keep from throwing yourself out a window.
Good thing you're such an steady rock of reason and cool-headed critical thinking.

    • You're an idiot, Shagnasty. Your 'drug trials' for the past 30 years is the problem. Obama is a punk revolutionary who doesn't give a scheiss about the eggs he has to break to make his commie omelet.

      Have a nice day, punk.

    • We are always hearing about how Social Security is going to run out of money.

How come we never hear about Welfare running out of money?
