They have been giving the mapping away for years. They gave it to anyone wanting to build a WP8 phone. Hence msft giving them 250 a quarter in payments. Generates just under a 800mil. That is not enough to save the company. The #1 problem is how to make money off of maps. The gov't (google uses) provide the data for free. The best way is the make it Groupon type product that with deal pop ups and ads, but that is unappealing. It is great advantage for them as a PHONE maker, but as a solo business it does not work.
I bet it was a ok deal, but they are in trouble financially so disclosing anything that is not major is dumb. They are not holding back either, companies do not operate like that, especially with the stock falling off a cliff.
Nokia is a LOT more than just a phone maker. Nokia Siemens Networks is working on technology that will make 4G obsolete for example. The licensing business has been profitable, they have favorable potential income from lawsuits, potential spinoffs, jv's etc etc. NOK is not a small company by ANY stretch. It is just trading for far less than its value.
