When I had my iphone 4S and connected to wi-fi for internet browsing, the wi-fi signature showed at the top left corner of the iphone 4S thus making sure I did use wi-fi. With the lumia however, there is no such indication even though I have put wi-fi connection on. My question is how do I know I am using wi-fi instead of 4G-LTE for my internet connection. This is crucial if one has limited data usage. I Have unlimited data, but was asked by my sister's husband who has limted data usage and he wants to make sure he is using wi-fi on his lumia 920. Why doesn't the lumia indicate wi-fi signal like the iphone 4S. Need your help here as I couldn't answer the question.
another way to be sure if you are running WIFI or not is download the " free speed test" app ... run this test, it will tell you if you are using WIFI or 4G, upload speed, download speed ... very useful app.
i downloaded an app called connectivity shortcuts. or you can pin the setting screen (w/ the sprocket symbol and when press Wi-Fi is placed on top of bluetooth. The application connectivity shortcuts was convenient. i also download a battery app which helps.
Connectivity Shortcuts app consist of Wifi tile, blue tooth tile, airplane mode tile, cell service tile, location tile compressed in one windows tile.. i love my lumia 920.
Under setting, click Wifi - On - choose connection.
If you're already connected and on the main screen, tap the top of the screen and it will show the connection -- wifi, signal, battery, etc.
After a few seconds, the top hides itself again to give more viewing space. Simply tap the top to see what's going on.
Thanks for your suggestion. I suggested that, but my brother-in-law does not want to do that, cause he does not do a lot of internet browsing on his lumia, but when and if he does he wants to use the wi-fi.
