Makes Nokia's M$ choice even more dumb....
Not so long ago Microsoft (MSFT) was the undisputed king of technology, controlling about 90% of the market for operating systems. But as demand moved from desktops to laptops and then to tablets and smartphones, Microsoft lost its market reign to Google (GOOG) and Apple (AAPL).
A report released today by Gartner, the technology research and advisory firm, forecasts that by 2017 shipments of devices using Google’s Android operating system will dwarf shipments of Windows PCs and phones. Shipments of Apple iPhones and iPads will be almost at parity with devices powered by Microsoft.
“Microsoft could be completely irrelevant in three or four years if they can’t make headway in the smartphone or tablet market, where they’ve been struggling,” says The Daily Ticker's Henry Blodget.
The numbers are staggering. Gartner forecasts that by 2017 the number of tablets, mobile phones and ultramobile devices will total 2.7 billion units—almost 10 times the number of desktop and notebook PCs.
The stock market already reflects this shift in the device market. “The market is basically saying [Microsoft] is not a growth story. It's treated almost like a wasting asset, if you look at the current books and current cash flow,” says Michael Santoli, senior columnist at Yahoo! Finance.
Sentiment: Strong Sell
more of a chance softie takes out Nokia if MSFT thinks there software is slipping away...they need a platform to distribute the OS...that platform would be WP8 phones...desktops and laptops are dying a slow death....
For the record the idot elop jumped off a burning platform to a sinking ship. His
(well really the evil empire's) whole concept of desktop monopoly failed os same as
failed monopoly os on your phone. Now it seems that peps are losing the desktop and laptop
for a nice google playbook that works well with your android phone.
explain what you mean by garbage. just because more people are using Android does not mean Windows Phone 8 and Nokia our garbage. I use my Windows laptop at home. and my Windows Phone on the road. I love my lumia 920. only had it for three months and it is incredible. don't say Nokia and Microsoft is garbage just because you own blackberry or Apple stock. or some other financial reasons. I own Nokia stock. and I never once said Apple or Blackberry are garbage. it makes you sound like an uneducated dope
Sentiment: Strong Buy
So now you understand why Nokia will flourish.Do you really think a company as large as microsoft doesn't read the tea leaves. They know that they risk irrelevance if they can't penetrate the mobile market and they will do whatever they have to do to avoid that.Enter one of the largest phone manufacturers in the world.Want to bet they won't be successful then short like crazy.
well actually just looking at the evil empire's recent buys only hpq has a worse record, goes to can't read the tea leaves. And there's tons of books on how thy're systemic and bloated mgt lives to
protect monopoly cash flows, so they actively avoid new distributed tech.
And yes I have shorted like crazy as the long are totally clueless and delusional.
