I've got to say, that Ex Div writeup seems backwards to me. If the Ex Div day says "Every stockholder on record gets paid." The important thing is to be an owner on the day of record. Who cares what day they mail out the checks?
I always thought the stock went down on the Ex Div date.
No; because it does not affect the stock price until it gets paid, look at any security, the day the pay out the stock goes down accordingly, nothing is paid on Ex div day, that is only announcing to the shareholders that they will get paid at a later date.
