Some idiot 38 year old woman was on Good Morning America today with a lawsuit saying that Shape-ups caused hip stress fractures in both hips within 5 months. She now has 2 pins in her hips. She used them as a waitess. Her story is highly unlikely but is bad publicity. At least Good Morning America disclosed that ABC spoke to half a dozen orthopedists and most were skeptical that shoes alone could cause stress fractures.
Nike, Reebok, Deckers, Wolverine, etc... have all been sued countless times by individual claiming their products caused some health issue. It's no surprise that the same thing has happened to Skechers. The woman in question is probably severely overweight leading to the stress fractures.
It's not like people are losing their toes in escalators (CROX).
Supposedly her bone density is normal. How she sustained stress fractures in both hips that required metal pins is a mystery to me. She supposedly only walked and worked in shape-ups; it's an injury from impact or repetitive actions or infection. You don't get impact from walking/standing in Shape-ups. Surgery is usually not needed too. 10% of sports injuries are stress fractures. I don't see Nike getting sued over them.
