While Softbanks money would help Sprints balance sheet, it does nothing to change their business model. They would still be #3 player in the market. Teaming up with Dish would allow the two companies to leverage each others experience and market shares. Longterm growth is going to be broadband content. Sprint has the broadband infrastructure, while Dish has additional spectrum and content. So the question for Sprint is do we take the safe route and cushion our balance sheet and remain status quo, losing subscribers or do they take some risk and change the market dynamics to provide something greater then what ATT or Verizon can provide.
