Looks like Algeria is turning into something like a NIgeria. pipeline risk, kidnap risk etc. Two major pipelines that supply Europe probably have more risk than many think. Both the trans med and meg pipelines go through Algeria as far as i can tell and how secure are those? part of the answer for Europe is more lng for security even though its at a higher price. Security of pipelines in Algeria are out of the control of Europe, although we do see France starting to address that at least in part. Bottom line is more lng is likely. jmho
Algeria has dealt swiftly with the kidnap situation unlike what happens in Nigeria. now costs to secure the infrastructure are going to climb as they have to secure the major and other pipelines. Its enough to keep some shareholders back in to US oil and gas, but not a flight away just on one incident.
