We've been consistently having to put up with foreign exchange losses for a few quarters, so I was very happy to see the Taiwanese dollar much weaker in the past day. Overnight, the USD- TWD rate went to where it was back in September/October.
"Taiwan dollar forwards had their biggest weekly loss in seven months on speculation a weakening yen will prompt the island’s central bank to step up efforts to prevent gains in the local currency."
Japanese yen weakness may start a bit of a currency war. Taiwan doesn't want to start losing export business. If that continues we'll start seeing FX gains instead of losses, and Taiwanese exports will start getting cheaper again.
