After all is said and done and lessons learned, I think the confidence that we can handle even real bad nuclear reactor scenarios will grow. I just hope that one day we learn, that building in danger zones is not a good idea.Nature will keep on teaching us this lesson.
Agreed, this only strength our knowledge and drive to improve better safety features, there are very little feasible alternatives to oil. Thermal is too expensive. Solar only works during the summer and you would need 100 panels to produce what a 1 kilo of uranium can.
All of Japan is a danger zone. And they need electricity or they can't heat their homes. You can't cover the island in solar, no fossil fuels, so what do you expect them to do? Maybe if they all peddle bicycles real fast attached to wires 24/7 they can power everything.
