Can you tell me if TSRA is being sued in any of the litigations or are they doing the suing? How many cases are there? I appreciate your help. Trying to determine their legal exposure besides the ongoing legal fees.
The only matter where I'm sure compensation is being asked from Tessera is the RAMBUS anti-trust case. It's very complicated and I don't really understand how Tessera fits in.
The various patent challenges indirectly could cost Tessera a lot of money. But the rule of thumb is that on rexamination, USPTO often disallows a lot of claims, most of which are eventually reinstated, and they hardly ever completely gut a granted patent.
What legal ruling? The most recent one I see is from May.
If they were denied a full panel CAFC rehearing on the DRAM matter I'd consider that more positive than negative (they'll get the money from Amkor sooner than from DRAM makers. Probably less, but sooner.) If Qualcomm etc got a full panel rehearing on the Wireless matter, that's a big setback.
RAMBUS is the model of an abusive patent troll, and I won't even consider the possibility that they'll win their anti-trust case in the end.
Some of the smaller cases are important, but I don't have the list.
If it's something to do with the bond in the Wireless matter, those are legal housekeeping matters that are routinely dismissed until appeals are exhausted. They have to be filed because not doing so could be read as abandonment.
Let's see: there's a patent office matter that could potentially lead to a LOT of further litigation expense; losing that would be serious.
